1418 clutch adjustment was created by farmer brown
I am having trouble with the clutch pedal not returning past the bottom of its free travel. There is a heavy spring between the pedal and a counter leaver but I cant work out witch way to adjust it or even if this will fix the problem. It has got to the stage that the clutch will slip if I don't put my toe under the pedal and lift it. Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

G'day Farmer not sure on the assist spring but if it like any other one I have adjusted it will be backwards to what you think I would try by taking tension off the spring for starters, is the pivot well lubed up?

If there's no adjustment near the gearbox ? Then at the pedal you need "free play" so adjust the threaded rod ... Usually anti clockwise

It's been well over 10 years since I worked on a similar Merc system, but I think that a pedal stuck down nearly always related to a soggy master cylinder, air in the system, vacuum in the reservoir, or master cylinder pushrod adjustment. However I don't remember this also resulting in a slipping clutch (I may be wrong). So I would be having a look for something like a seized cross shaft in the bellhousing or the pedal pivot as well.
