That's a very neat looking unit. Thanks for sharing the updated photos with us.

It's a great job and I look forward to seeing more

Good on you trucksyd. Great to see someone brave enough to have a go and post picks of the results so all of us wannabe restorers can see we don't need to be skilled technicians to do a half decent job. Just keeping at it and doing a little bit at a time will get you a long way.

gday, i finally got around to fixing the radiator in the truck,it was getting quite hot & wasstarting to bother me , so i got the original recored.
they did a great job, they are in sydney,s western suburbs (st.marys}....rays radiators..i went & got some other quotes & they wanted $1400-$1500...for the same thing, i got this done for $900, so still a lot of dough ..(almost as much as the truck is worth)!...but it will probably save the engine, as the last time i took it for a run 1/2hour drive ,it was stinking hot ...

as i was dropping it back in ,the holes wouldnt line up at all , so i just got the drill & open them up a bit, & then fitted like a glove

I told the radiator bloke that the truck was sitting for quite a few years , so he suggested placing a stocking over the top hose flange to catch any possible debris, otherwisw it will clog it up just like before.

another tip was to flush it with this product , apparently fill it up , then run the engine for 20mins then drain , seemed to work ok.

.........happy easter gents ,,,& drive safely....

You won't regret the new radiator. Mine was just over $700 in 2009, tired 281, 40 degree day towing a car: needle stays right where it should be.

A full alloy new unit from Aussie desert coolers for about the same money may have been a better investment. The truck looks like its coming along well, glad to see you are afraid to have a go at things yourself.

can any of you 6cyl inter owners tell me if this carb & dizzy will fit on a 281.apparently off a 4wd inter, its a 2barrel holley ,i am thinking it could be off a 282.....i am hoping to get the matching manifold as well......if so will there be an increase in horsepower?....i know you cant work these engines to much in regards to performance, but is 2-3 extra horsepower achievable by swapping the single throat carby to the dual throat....thanks

Syd, that's a Holley 2110, as fitted to AB's. You don't want that on there. There may be some gain at WOT, but if there is, it ain't worth the trouble. Kits run upwards of a hundred bucks (bought locally), they are prone to an off-idle flatspot, they eat power valves, they suffer badly from percolation (fuel boils in carby and floods engine) on today's fuels.
The Stromberg BX series is about as simple and reliable as it gets, and cheap to service.

When I eventually do the head up on mine, I'm going to a single barrel off a D-line, like yours.
