318 v8

Some confusion with a purchase just done.

I recently purchased an AT4 114 roller and got a bonus v8 in the deal and the guy said the motor had come out of an Inter. On inspection of the block you could clearly see the casting 318 so the assumption was that it was a dodge motor. On stripping it down I noticed it has the IH casting on the block and also the Pentastar on the manifold. From my understanding the Inter motors were 304 and 345. Is the 304 a destroked 318 or did the Inter also have the 318.

they are totally different motors but ive heard some ? were made by international or something to that tune

I have heard just like IH and Dodge shared cabs they also shared plants IH Geelong would not only cast IH stuff but would also cast stuff on contract hence the reason quite a few Chrysler motors have an IH symbol cast in them

Ahh so I take it that it is a 318 but what would you class it as a Dodge/Chrysler or Inter. So I guess they were cast by IH but still classed as the Dodge/Chrysler motor and to purchase parts as that.

yes definatley still a normal 318 engine

there is quiet a few differences in the cabs , they look the same until you start cutting them apart then you find that they are made different

My ute 318 is a IH cast block, as far as i know they were never made here in australia. Chrysler and IH have been doing business for years with each other
