Hi Fill,
I agree with the other interesting comments, you are putting some of us to shame, namely me. We have a "K" model all stripped and ready to start preparation work, been like that for two years, my son is keen to start on it again, once we do we will load photos. keep up the good work.
Charlie.

Hi guys I am still a long way off putting tyres on the rims.
As you have seen in earlier photos the rims are painted up all nice. My resto is being done on a low budget, out of the seven old tyres I am going to use the four best on the back, and one for the spare. If the truck mechanic road worthy them ok. Hopefully only having to buy two new ones for the front. My mechanic is the one sourcing and fitting all tyres.
Sorry for taking so long but this is the question.
Can you fit tyres on split rims with out damaging the nice paint. My mechanic is not sure. I did see on another site a tool but I'm not sure if it would help.I will try and put the photo up.
Cheers Fill

Old trucks will make you poor but not unhappy

If you take your wheels and tyres to a professional outfit especially one the specialises in fitting up those fancy alloy ones they should be able to fit them up without damaging your paint job and it shouldn't cost you a motza

Hello Fill,
Your rims are not like those in the last photo, your ones will have a removable lock ring on a solid wheel.
Once the tube and rust band [flap] are in, the tyre is slipped on to the rim after starting the valve in it's slot, and making sure it is pointing the right way.
Getting the lock ring on is going to take some paint off whether it's lever or rubber hammer, make very sure it is properly seated before inflating.
Then touch up the paint.
Your safest way would be to follow oldgmc's advice.
Admire your work.
Cheers, David.

When inflating a split rim, make sure you have the split ring faces DOWN to the concrete, or floor. Might save you from being decapitated, if its not seated properly.

Thanks for the fast reply I knew it was a dangerous job, my mechanic won't let any of his staff fit the tyers. He hasn't got a cage to pump then up. He has done a lot of them in the past, and is confident.I guess I will have to touch up the paint afterwards. Thanks again for the quick replies.
Cheers Fill.
