My 1954 Ryco catalog lists Commer r5, R7 1948-52 as using a Tecalemit FG2334 filter (not sure if this is the assembly or cartridge). Ryco equivalent was R210V, a star shaped felt filter.

Your best bet might be to try Mr Filter in Sydney. They are very helpful and have even been able to mix two different small filters together to get the required length. A shorter length shoiuld work if you can put in a spacer or spring to keep the seal in contact with the head, and a smaller o/d shouldn't be a problem either.

The Humber Car Club in Sydney carry an extensive range of spare parts. I am sure they could help you.

Hi Beaver, Just found on another engine i have here a brass plate with the Tecalemit name on it. FG 2334 is on this plate but i think it my be a Tecalemit number. Will look up that other Ryco number your had just maybe. Mr Filter my be an option also, both engines i have here had the Star type felt filters fitted to them. Be nice to find one of those good felt type filters. Will look at the Humber filters too but maybe they would be smaller. I will keep looking, Thanks everyone for your ideas, Cheers Hommie ;)

I looked at Humber cars in my Ryco catalog, and the part numbers quoted were different to the trucks, not that it means much when it comes to replacement parts.

Even in the truck range, part numbers depended on the year and model. The early 50s was the start of change from by-pass filters to full flow type, so this may affect the type of filter needed.

That is the number I quoted earlier, so at least we've got the model right.

The Ryco number does not come up in a search of their web site, but you could always ring them up, they have a good customer service hotline.

Hi all, I think that you would have to be a bit careful mixing the Humber Car parts and filters with the Truck version. They looked the same but there were a lot of differences at times as some truck engines had chrome bores and some cast iron pistons where the car motors had alloy pistons and cast bores with chrome rings. Because of this, I was told that some used different oils and also different filters. The standard car motor had an alloy head where the Truck had a cast iron head. In the 60's I broke a cast piston in one of them and I was told to get a Super Snipe motor and stick it in and that's how I found all the differences. Kav.

Hi Kav, Yeah they had a few different combos back then. I was a bit worried when i needed to bore this engine as it had the chrome bores. But on close inspection it was 40 thou over and had not done much work but had badly scored the bores on 2 cylinders. So a couple of sleeves and a good hone fixed that and a set of nos pistons. The pistons where original factory ones but had a chrome top ring which was a bit worrying. But the engine man assured me that at 40thou over there was no chrome left in the bores. So i put the chrome rings in. As for the Oil Filter Cartridge i think i might make 2 adapter plates on the lathe and use a Ryco R277P. The external diamentions of the filter are right but it has a smaller hole at the top and bottom. Will have a go at making this combo work, with a bit of luck it should do the job. Thankyou every one for helping with the filter problem will let you know what happens, Cheers Hommie :)

Hommie, I just had a look in my old book with all the filters we used to use, and we always used the R277P in the earlier Commers including the early "C" Knockers and the later ones used R2071P, so what you are going to do should be exactly right. - Kav.
