Welcome Ross. Mate the fact that they are both Drivable Gives you a Huge advantage. Over most other Blokes restorations/Preservations.
Get one roadworthy, then rego It & get out & have some fun with It.. would be My advice.

The Manuals appear on Ebay from time to Time, just have to keep an eye out fro them.

Fleetparts at Toowoomba would be a good starting point for The bits you'll need to make then Roadworthy.

A pic of that rust hole would be good, don't think I've seen one there. They do have a hole from memory. The saddle under the radiator is a bad spot, though.
I had one with no other rust - embarrassing to admit - I filled it with foam-o-fill! (it was still solid)
The 1110's never came in 4x4, the smallest was (I think) 1310.
Steering - mostly it's just the steering box. The oil leaks out and then the bushes wear. A good clean out, new bushes and seal and they're usually not too bad. You can have a couple of inches play at the steering wheel and still be roadworthy (the book says 3 - 4 inches depending on diamater) Get someone to jiggle the steering wheel a little left to right while you look if the pitman arm moves up and down in the box. The book says self-levelling grease, but few carry it these days. A heavy gear oil works fine. The king pins will need checking, too.

That'll do for now, Jarrod.

OK, the rust hole between the door and the bonnet on the trayback is the end of the plenum (vent) chamber. Check under the dash around the vents for rust. Check the drain holes under the mudguards, just below that rust hole.

Jarrod.

Thanks jarrod, i think i did check around there and that was the only hole just from a quick glance, but i will have another look, also in the way of water proofing those old cabs so that rain water cant get in, is that just replacing the seals and door rubbers etc? or do they still leak a bit?

Yeah mate that would be a good place to start. But a very common place for the water to get in is if that plenum has rusted through.

Hi Ross! I am in Canberra & have a fully restored D1110/ AT4 as a daily driver. I have a workshop manual for the AT4 which could be helpful. The D1110 @ the same age At4 have numerous common features. 0407 266 658 if you think I can be helpful.

steering box is the week point on the inters, new bush's ream to hammer fit, or a snug as possible
when the bush's wear the fingers wear and get flat spots and are not available
spare good steering box is good to have, nothing much else will wear,
oil only, no grease

you don't really need 4x4 I have 1210 with lug tires on the rear, no locker goes every where the land rover does
