These older fuel pumps suffered from diaphragm failures when used with modern fuels.
Goss in Melbourne used to make repair kits for them, but no longer.

Mate, I'd say you have nailed it. The small amount of info i know about the truck was that it had a reco engine put in at some stage but hadn't done much after that. I cant see the fuel pump putting it out of action at that point in time as it wouldn't have run at all. Unless they gave up on it and towed it back. Guess i'll never know the full story but I'll try and get hold of the other type of pump. I'm 99% sure that's going to be the problem as i fail to see how the lobe would wear so much that the pump doesn't work at all. Its currently fitted with the pump in the top pic so I think it may be problem solved, so long as i can get hold of the other type of pump!!

They look similar but one has a long lever and the other a short one and they aren't interchangeable.
Like these. If there has been and engine swap at some stage that will confuse the issue.

I've just bought this pump off ebay. Listed for 214-300, the lever seems as per lower pic just the casting and location of inlet is a bit different to pics above but very similar to the one currently on it.

Just for the record, I just bought a fuel pump kit for my Bedford A series. I got it through Repco.
My issue was the inlet valve was NBG.
