Oilman, I know it may be a bit late to say anything, but just be careful with bolting on critical, load bearing parts over several coats of paint. The problem is that if there is any movement in the parts, the paint may crack and fall out, leaving the parts loose. I guess it's the same as bolting dual wheels back together with dirt on the flanges- eventually the dirt falls out and the wheels become loose.

You'll find that the factory will apply a thin undercoat, assemble the parts, then apply the rest of the layers. When I worked for the Deere dealer, if we had to change the wheel track on a new tractor we would actually buff the paint off around the bolt holes before refitting the bolts.

I don't want to be a bigger, but I just thought you should know. Keep up the great work otherwise.

Dieseldog, that makes sense and certainly how it was put together originally. Given that it is likely to do no more than a few hundred kays a year without any load I don't think it will be an issue, however I will keep it in mind. The last resto I did about 16 years ago hasn't turned over 4000 miles yet!

Finally got a coat of topcoat on the chassis, well at least some landed on the chassis, but most seemed to end up on me.

Looking so pretty.
When spray painting big stuff I give the floor a quick wet down which settles any dust and then the overspray just hoses out the door when it's finished. (red grass)

Looking good Oilman. Since I bought a High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) spray gun there is very little paint dust on the floor etc. except when painting something near the floor and pointing the gun at it. I have hardly used the old suction gun since. Geoff

Hi Oilman, It is great to see some ones else doing a resto. Fifteen years ago I was doing a resto under the eye of my father- in-law (ex mechanic). It was a 1947 Chev Ute. We had a work shop manual. It said to have no paint in between the leaves, because the paint thickness would wear out. No lubricant because it would over heat the leaves. With the Bedford, no paint, but graphite grease. With the Chev, the leaves had a lot of wear when I got it. With the Bedford no wear at all. The Chev did come from a very sandy area. Apparently graphite grease is a very messy thing to use, I've got no paint or lubricant in mine- as they say "watch this space"". Keep the story coming with photos. Cheers Fill.
The leaves came with grease but they also came with sharp edges.
