Thanks All.

The rim is ready to be fitted - I'll take it to a tyre joint for the first time.

However, I'm starting to doubt if the rim was split or just a crack in the paint. I'm working with a mate who knows his metals and he's got me to polish it right back to a mirror to see if the crack is really in the steel. It's starting to look like it's not.

Anyway, here's another question;

Kingpins. How much movement if any should there be? I can detect about 1mm "rocking" when holding the top and bottom of the wheel. (ie 12-6 oclock)

None detected when rocking at 3-9 oclock.

It's not wheel bearing because I nipped them up to eliminate.

thanks Jon.

There was a couple of others...MAN trucks had a Trilex rim.....the rim came apart as three pieces that joined with zigzag cross cuts.........very popular with owners of foreign origin,.........Ford USA used a rim that was split down the middle,and held with little claws.....they wernt much good............and Ive got a English 10 stud rim that has lockrings on both sides....from a Daimler bus,I think.
