If I had the money I’d definitely insert a Perkins in it , they were an option on the 630A for sure and I think to 610A as well
I know Im not John but gunna throw my thoughts in the rind anyway
In a word no
I have had a interest in these Inter V8's for some time, dont know why guessing I must have been dropped on my head as baby
Answer to your question is it wont make bugger all if any difference
IH V8's were built to last and thsts about it
They are very low compression and if you ever have a head off they end even lower compression
The reason they were built with such a low compression is they were built for US farmers in mind that had cheap crappy farm fuel that would make the motor ping if compression was higher
They were huge and heavy lumps that a massive internal weight spinning around gave a good lugging little motor that lasted for ever
Thats pretty much it for the good points
After market throttle body fuel injection
A new inlet manifold
Deck the block
And some headwork
And machine the crank down to reduce the weight and you will get a lot lor better engine
Still wont rev like a race car but will give good fuel economy with a original motor
Or put a Perkins in
I dont know why they never used rhe Neuss motor as they are a good motor as well if not better than.a 6354 Perkins
Just some thoughts

I have never been able to find much about it besides tangential references to being a stillborn truck engine.

The only way I can think that will increase the fuel consumption on yours is to turn the key to the 'off' position. They are a very hungry engine.

Rattail 1927 wrote: Thanks Paul. I like the way it runs and I’ve no interest in driving it like a car , or revving it like a car etc etc I was just wondering if there was a way in maybe getting a little more fuel economy.....
One more thing to consider for economy would of course be a over drive box
Some time ago I scanned and copied a article out of I think a magazine called Restored Cars
A Australian magazine and a fella gave a very detailed recollection of how he converted a Holden grey motor to ULP
He was if my memory is correct getting 24 - 25 MPG regularly
Some body on here claimed grey motors get better than that standard
I wouldn't have thought so but not been a Holden man I wasnt going to question that
Maybe worth have a search aroumd the forum for that article as it may give you some ideas
I maybe foolishly believe good fuel economy could be achieved with a 345 or 392 but I guess that all depends on what you call good ad well
