Just trying to refit the rear window on my 1953 K Model Bedford.
Anyone done this? Just seems a bugger to get in.
Is it best to fit the rubber to the glass & then fit glass & rubber to the outside of the body or
fit rubber to the body & then fit the glass?
The rubber I got was as close as I could get to the original.
If someone has purchased a rear window rubber recently I'd appreciate knowing their source so I can check the material section to mine.

me thinx its a process of elimination 2 C wot fits
Provinding the Glass, Rubber n Tin work iz az new
eye'd B incined to fit the rubber to the tin work
then put a bit of string in the rubber
then place the glass to the bottom section of rubber (Using Gravity as U're m8)
n push n yell n scream forcin the glass in and by yanking on the string to yank the rubber lip of the F glass
wen dun go shout u're self a chilled refresher

I did look at few Youtube videos & the rope trick is obviously the way to go.
From the shape of my rubber section the glass must go in the wide outside channel.
I did put the rubber around the glass first & cut it to length but when I offered it up to the opening it just looked way too big.
I then tried putting the rubber on the body first & found it was too long so I cut an inch off!
I'll play around with both your options & see how we go, Just hope I haven't cut the rubber too short now.
The way Zuffen suggested is how I was taught to fit screens into cars when I was an apprentice panel beater. The only other thing we did was to put windscreen sealant on top of the string then sit as much of the rubber into the bottom of the opening. It is a 2 person job and you can both start on the outside and using the flat of your hand slap the screen downwards to push the rubber onto the edge of the metal. We always had the 2 ends of the string at the bottom and slowly wriggled the string along again while the person on the outside kept slapping the screen down or into both bottom corners then slowly work the sides into place and again keep slapping it downwards and into the sides. Once you get to the top corners this is where it gets tight to fit so very slowly keep moving the string and slapping it into place. Get one corner in and work along the top for a short distance then get the last corner in place and finish the top.
Believe me you will have a mess and sore hands from slapping. Go bloody slowly and dont force it too much and keep slapping it downwards all the time to give you as much room to get the top in. Sometimes it will help to have a bent flat bladed screwdriver or an old brake adjusting tool to help lift the rubber over the metal edge, be careful at all times.
Do you have any of the original rubber. If so double check how much extra it measures when it is on the glass then do the same with your new rubber. If the new rubber is over sized it wont work.
