Yes amount of air current that a vehicle creates is amazing to me
On YouTube recently a fella went to W.A. and got a Torana in really really bad condition and spent maybe 5 weeks working on it and drove it home to Sydney
He had a new headliner put in it and there was no seal on the boot
The amount of air collected and pushef back into the car was amazing and pushed the headliner right down to his head
And the exhaust fumes were a big problem as well
Pretty sure this is the link, should be a gold Torana
Paul

I'm thinking, to save possible grief from the authorities, might it be worth asking the technical people at the SA dep't of transport what the actual requirements are? I expect there were some at some time.
Another vehicle that crosses my mind is a series 3 Army Landrover radio vehicle. The ex-BIL had one with a front exhaust. I don't remember how far it stuck out, though. I'll see if anything similar to yours shows up at Allora this weekend.
I'm enjoying watching you get this done, versus what I'm not getting done...
Jarrod.

Had a check of S.A. Regs. and nothing to extend beyond the body line. The "compromise" pipe ought to suffice tucked in to suit those requirements, hopefully?
Rather than the end curve being cut horizontal (as per Lang's shiny example) and the vertical cut will remain as there was also reference to any protruding edges that could cause lacerations. (The outer upper end of the curve would be more likely to do this than in the vertical cut edge version?).

Weeks and weeks of "other" jobs and eventually I found time to get out on B
for today, covered in dust but fired up first time. Despite a hopeless location for the idle screw I managed to slow the idle down having put up with an idle that must have been about 1000rpm (or more) ever since it first fired up for me. There's no point rushing these jobs . . .
Having done that I actually dropped it off the axle stands and pavers, backed it out of the shed and some visitors dropped by. Eventually I managed to wash some of the dirt off, and by the looks of the crappy paint some of that too. Not to worry, it was a cheap job anyway and I could claim I was trying to give it a patina look!?
Despite the darkening sky I opened up the gates and took it out the front gate, sharp right across the centre line as B for obviously does not like "sharp" turns . . . but a quick selection of reverse and then back into 1st to park it momentarily on the wrong side of the road just in time for a car to go by. A 2-3 point reverse turn had it back onto the drive and safely out of harms way.
Now this might not seem like much to some of you, but for me it proved several things: 1. It does run (still with the old plugs and leads), 2. Judicious use of throttle and clutch is necessary to prevent shuddering from the rear end, 3. The left hand mirror really is useless without a passenger, 4. I did have enough petrol in the tank after all (really no idea at the moment), but just as well cos if it had run out in the middle of the road I would have been well and truly stuffed! 5. No apparent oil leaks from the sump seals, AND 6. Most importantly the brakes are now working okay.

I do remember taking my Federal truck for a short test drive once and it ran out of prime/ fuel blockage on the main intersection in front of the local high school
now to quickly prime a 671 GM and shift things before the school bell
no pressure at all LOL
And yes it also has a huge turning circle

Pom, we have been following this for just shy of 5 years, through the planning, prototype and construction stages. To see it now in an almost complete stage is such a credit to your imagination and determination and skills.
Well done mate.

Looks great PDU, bet you’re pleased to see it out on the road. Some fine tuning details and ready for show outings. Best of luck to you.
