I have a AB151 which i am hoping to fit 8.25 tyres to. Are the std rims suitable for the wider tyre? Some one tells me they need the
wider rim from the AB160 to avoid bellowing the tyre in the middle. I will not be doing a big mileage nor carry much weight. On the same AB150 the diff is 6.1 ratio. I was hoping to fit a o/d 5 speed. Has any one fitted similar or is to difficult. Would i do better fitting
a higher ratio diff. I have access to a 1640 axles and 2 speed diff . Not sure if they may be able to be used on the AB150?
Any advise is very much appreciated.

yes ,its quite easy to find a higher ratio diff......the centre from a C1300 or a D1310 fits ,and is 4.3 ratio.

I was going to suggest that a 6" wide rim would be the minimum width for a 8.25 x 15 tyre. So measure the rim width between the front and rear flanges to get the rim width unless you can see it stamped somewhere but usually that is on the inside of the rim under where the rust band would sit.

This would only apply if the vehicle was subject to ADR when built I would think

There has been plenty of of road and ex military type vehicles that have big balloon type tyres that are a heck of a handful to get back on the rimscor the rims back back together

If I could get the tyre on the rim I would say its fine

The standard specs for AB151 is 7.50 x 20 8 ply tyres on 6.00s rims with 6.17 diff ratio,
To fit a 5 speed overdrive (T34) would required the change of the bell housing and flywheel/clutch out of an AB182, as the bolt up pattern of the gearbox is different.
The rear engine mount is different to the C and D line 1600-1800, or you could replace the rear engine crossmember with the later C and D line type, which then allows the use of the later bell housing and sundries. The 6-281 C and D line 1600-1800 has a rear engine housing to which the bell housing bolts to.

Thanks to all the info regarding rims and gearbox. Could someone tell me the settings of the valves on this gold engine , with
the sloping valves. It was suggested that the valves had to be set with the engine running.Could some body clarify if this is correct or not.
