I have been told about this tool but have no experience with one
Is there a concern with rust forming with the over lap ?
Im no metal work so dont know these things

MrsM, If you use a Flange tool to run an edge the lap joint is excellent and does not distort as a normal over lap does.

If I was doing this mod I'd be looking for a pair of guards that had the profile and radius I wanted and cut the bits you want off and weld away.
The hardest part of these mods is getting any shape into the lip of the guard.

Paul, like any lap weld you need to seal the seam, how good a seal will depend on where it is located.
I used lead on my doors but a good Acrylic sealer then Underbody sealer will work too. ( Acrylic sealer can be painted over unlike Silicone)
Cheers Steve

I have never used one of these lap tools but seen them used a few times and as already suggested the use of a good sealant is a must but also having the offset facing down as not to trap moisture.
