Hi all, has anyone ever came up with a better park brake than the original on a 610A four wheel truck. Using the truck to put boat in and out and dont trust it.

Guess it will be a case of making sure the brake is adjusted properly.
If I remember right these just had standard vacuum/hydraulic brakes so a line locker maybe a possibility.
If it has air you could look at using a air brake maxi to work the lever and add force to the operation.

Talk with your local brake reline shop.
A high friction lining should grip better, given the lever system is correctly adjusted.
You are not concerned with lining wear, as the brake is only on when parked.
Someone will have spec’s of what slope is used to design this type of park brake.
They won’t hold a loaded truck on a steep grade.

Further, if a 2 speed diff, park in high range as that offers the brake greater mechanical advantage over the wheels turning.
Not a good design compared to maxi’s.
One drum stopping 2 wheels via a tail shaft and diff. Used to see blocks carried on fuel tanks for jacking and also emergency stops.
Bail out and throw a block under the drive wheel quick smart!

This is a job I need to do on Lorry. It does not hold as well as it use to. Something else on the long list of things to do.

The tailshaft brake is really only there to pass the roadworthy, a lock on the hydraulic line would be great thing. I had one in a datum ute I bought from a timber cutter, not for parking ...... to much presure too long on the seals not hood apparently...... but great for hill starts.... not sure about the legalities. Leave the mechanical park brake there as well.
