I am looking for good ways to repair stripped threads in an alloy pice. Thread is 1/4" BSW. Looking at using helicoil but is there a newer or better way to repair stripped internal threads?

It took me three tries to get the product to do what i wanted it to do, the directions are kind of right but if you want it to work for sure follow these steps:
1:) shake the release blue liquid very well for about 45 seconds before use. Apply very very small amount then let dry for about 3-4 min then another small amount and let dry
2:) if your bolt is free moving and completly stripped squeze out a dime size 1/8 " tall blob of each compound and mix by layering for about 2-3 min scraping and relating until you feel it starting to thicken.
3:)scoop up half your blob and apply to left side of opening and repeat for right side.
4:) screw in your bolt (if you have a y threads left) or push bolt in until it bottoms(if its through hole place tape over back and stop there)
5)let the bolt sit and cure for 30 mins. Unscrew the bolt.
6) leave the part in a dry place for 3-4 hours over night preferable and the epoxy will turn grey.
You are good to go now remember do not torque bolt in until it turns grey!

Depending on what the thread is in, weld it up and drill and tap a fresh hole
Or what these other blokes have said

Keen threads or Rivnuts won't work in this situation the flange has to sit on the inside as the Cowell is a neat fit over the stator plate on the outside. Bottom of hole is almost flush with the bottom of the stator plate with little room for the pliers that squeeze the keen threads in place.
I do like helicoils n the Loctite products so worth considering.
Paul this plate is made from poor quality cast alloy so welding is out.

Helicoils are fine but be careful when drilling the casing that you are inline. If you are a newby do a test run on a scrap piece first. Some people use Helicoils in aluminium/alloys to add strength to the fastening point.
Could you tap the hole to 5/16" and make a stepped stud? IE 5/16'' in the case and 1/4" exposed.

Cant drill it our as the over size hole will be into the bottom of the stator plate. The original holes are n ow level. The guy who wants this is a perfectionist so it must be right.
I ran the taps through all 5 holes, 3 that hold the cowl then 2 that hold the electrics

I think Lang has the best suggestion to date.
Rivnuts can be installed with a bolt a washed and nut to crush them, if that would work.
It means you don't need the space for the pliers.

A stator plate is also the rotating plate that points are attached to for vacuum advance in a distributor on a motor
Well, that’s what I assumed he meant
