Pretty good improvement. The next step would be butting or lapping two similar pieces and keeping even heat on both.

As another suggest re welding n this comes from a non welder but cocky shit applyer. Always grind or sand the metal back to bate clean where your welding plus where your earth clamp is attached. If your trial runs are gasless one is a ripper. That is how I started but went over to solid core n gas. Bought the bottle n gas at Bunnings so no rent on the bottle only cost of gas when needed. I get about 12 months or so our of my bottle but don't do a lot. Right now I'm converting some rust on wheels back into a box trailer. Lots of long runs to be done plus floor patches n other patches on the sides. Has level has hardly dropped n almost halfway.

Looking okay halfa
I don't worry to much about gas or gasless,I seam to do okay with both
Gasless if it's as windy as all get out and I can't control the wind
Current full noise at all times, volts almost full noise, as high as you can go with out blowing a hole
Lots of trigger action as you lay the beads down, trigger action is stop and start
Don't get caught up in trying to run long fillets with a mig, stop start, stop start
This allows good penertration without blowing holes
After practicing for a bit you will see the metal change as the hole is just about to blow, you have full penetration then, stop for a second, then start
It actually is pretty easy
Stick for anything, but you need to keep more different rods were as mig is very versatile and you can weld high tensile steel with the same wire as mild steel
Steel doesn't have to be spotlessly clean for a weld, the ground needs to be okay though
For heavy welds I steel prefer stick as it is a lot more predictable to me, as is the end result
I do like that plane, reckon I might get air sick in it though

As I mentioned before, I'm good at grinding. Don't laugh too much but this is where I am at now in converting rust into trailer. Actually I am further along than these pics show but no pics as yet. One side almost done.

No good at all, you didn't line up the pattern on the chequer plate LOL!
Seriously though, you get things done that I used to, but no longer seem able.... (I'm doing my last ever (hopefully) week of after hours call; maybe I'll get more time / energy now).
All power to you, Jarrod.
