Here is the forum discussion on the C60 more than you wanted to know.

Yes, the Chevrolet 292 is considered a good engine, known for its exceptional strength, durability, and high low-end torque, which made it ideal for trucks and industrial use. While often underrated from the factory, it features a robust design with seven main bearings, a forged steel crankshaft, and heavy-duty connecting rods. It also shares design elements with Chevrolet's small-block V8, allowing for significant power increases with modifications like turbocharging.
Strengths of the 292 engine:

It also shares design elements with Chevrolet's small-block V8, allowing for significant power increases with modifications like turbocharging.
Strengths of the 292 engine:
- Durability and Strength:
The 292 has an overbuilt design with a strong block, seven main bearings, a forged steel crankshaft, and heavy-duty connecting rods, all contributing to its long life and ability to handle high loads. - High Torque:
It delivers excellent low-end torque, which is ideal for heavy-duty applications like trucks, vans, and industrial machinery. - Reliability:
The naturally balanced inline-six design reduces vibration and wear, making the engine very reliable and requiring less maintenance. - Power Potential:
With modifications, such as the "lump port mod," headers, and forced induction, the 292 can achieve high horsepower levels, sometimes exceeding 1,000 hp in extreme builds. - Simple Design:
The inline-six layout is simpler and easier to service compared to V-engines, reducing maintenance costs and downtime.
Limitations and Considerations:
- Factory Underrated:
GM deliberately underrated the 292's output to avoid competing with its V8 engines, so the advertised horsepower and torque were significantly lower than its actual capabilities. - Restricted Airflow:
The stock engine had a Siamese port cylinder head with limited airflow efficiency and a restrictive log exhaust manifold, which could be improved with modifications like the "lump port mod". - Application Restrictions:
Due to its high torque at low RPM, the 292 was primarily limited to trucks, vans, and agricultural equipment rather than passenger cars.
