Geoff - The 25mm difference in wheelbase from one side to the other could be due to a number of factors. Accident at some time, would be high on the list .. diagonally twisted chassis .. broken centre bolt in one of the front or rear springs .. inaccurately drilled spring perch mounts .. even a bent axle housing.

One thing's for sure, 25mm difference in WB, sure would make her crab-walk up the highway.

All good chassis men measure the chassis for horizontal twist .. check for rail straightness, both in the horizontal and vertical planes .. check diagonal measurement to ensure no diagonal twist .. check crossmembers for cracks, displacement, twist, loose or missing rivets .. and so on, etc, etc ..

Cheers - Ron.

ive gotcha now " 25mm difference on wheelbase" , you mean from one side to the other! that's a bit, does the spread on the bogie measure the same both sides? could be like onetrack says "broken centre-bolt" maybe a rail, need to take some serious measurements before you begin to set up that new rear end mate! might have been handy to find out what's going on before disassembly, but you will work it out

"onetrack" : All good chassis men measure the chassis for horizontal twist .. check for rail straightness, both in the horizontal and vertical planes .. check diagonal measurement to ensure no diagonal twist .. check crossmembers for cracks, displacement, twist, loose or missing rivets .. and so on, etc, etc ..

"i agree with that statement"

It was actually the cut off that the components are coming from had that. On pulling the diffs there appears to be no centre bolt on the main support beam on the front diff

Well the update is the sandblaster finally turned up and cleaned chassis rails from air tank back (As some are aware that this a step by step tidy up not a complete tear down tidy up) so the ferret can now see the burrow. Had a look at the rails and decided that we do not require all those holes and will fill them. Went to local hardware shop to get hole fill in and they didn't have the correct size >:( So the next job is weld and clean and re-prime. Gives plenty of tome to think and have figured that if you take the left rail off the cut off now stripped turn it over and backwards that you can actually use it as a template (that will get some thinking :-X) So hopefully in the next week we can get the hole maker out and make holes.
