Good thinking Geoff, re the do it a bit at a time. I've seen a lot of things (not only Trucks), pulled apart down to the last nut and bolt, then, Surprise!, old mate looks at it and starts thinking, thats a lot of effort, and next thing, it's off to China. All of mine, I've tried to do them bit by bit, so that at any given time, you can move them within a couple of days. Some bloke's (some others may call them pureists) reckon it's not a restoration if it's not stripped down to the rails, and in the case of double rails, split the rails. I reckon they are just trucks, have a look, see what needs to be done, and do it in stages, so it doesn't turn into a daunting task. I can also reasonably confidently say, that if a truck need double rails split, unless you know, or want to pay someone with an FB press to get them square again, you really need to rerail the truck.
Regards the holes for the suspension, you are right with useing the other rail as a template. The way I've always done them though is to actually mark out the rail. If you use a combination sqaure, you can mark the hieght of the holes on the rail, then do the rest off the tape. Using the other rail as a template will be easier though, have you got a Rotabroach type magnetic drill? If not, hire one mate (or buy a chinese one, some of them are better than the American ones). Tack the other rail to yours, then those things are magic for smacking holes through steel.

I picked up a mag base drill off ebay for $289+ $35 freight from SA to Rockhampton. Also got a kit of broaches for $135. It's not the best drill i've used but if you take your time when starting the cut it's good. To hire one here was $145 a day so i'm better off owning this one cause i can use it as i need it. Also the off cuts make good hole fillers. save alot of welding if you don't have a mig.
Bigcam gave me some advice too. Don't weld anything while the mag drill is clamped to the job. It will stuff the card in the magnet.

Yes Paul bought one of those things a bit more than that but got it for future jobs
Well this is what we have got
That one side still full of holes then there is the other side
Then there is the template rail for drilling
As we are building it our specs the wheel base will be decided by the placement of that first rail and we have to get a tails shaft made any way to suit the uni and follow up by matching the second rail to the same position

Well welded up the other rail. Decided to start drilling tonight was on a great roll thinks that this to easy and it was.
Four holes left to do on the firstrail and hit a welded one which buggered the hole slugger so off and buy another tomorrow then try and heat treat the said hole and try again keeping in mind there is or should a corresponding one on the other side.
Also pick up the sleeper and see if it suits or not.
When does a bloke have time to work.

Progress report and photos Placed front diff in position
Managed to drill problem holes. Only issue so far missed a couple of holes but they are still accessible. Sourcing of hi tensile was a small issue as Industrial supplier does carry size or quantity and some times you just don't what you want till you go to bolt up.
Diff was positioned using compliant approved lift gear (can never have to much wood)

Can someone steer me in the direction or internet site that shows piping schematic for brakes Just wondering as the cut off has 2 relay valves for the service brakes and both are feed with their own supply

Geoff,
I'm sure their is a diagram somewhere on the forum. But can't find it at the moment!
But from my limited knowledge that sounds reasonable. It is probably set up for dual circuit air system. One relay from the primary air tank and one for the secondary air tank.
Will continue to look for a diagram as that should make more sense.

That's the wrong diagram, a White 9000 will have single circuit brakes. Geoff give me a call if you like, I've got a fairly good idea where everything goes.
