Hi all
Have been wondering a few things so while I have the time thought I would get the questions out there.
The first pic is just showing my air filters but I am wondering if anyone can tell me if these things are oversized? I am thinking they may be after looking around at a few going past but have not had the chance to measure anyone else

Dan n McK
Gudday M8

Jist looks like the common Mack air cleaner
sum macks have one for the smaller engines n the biggr donks have the 2
Mack air cleaners work back to front compared to the common Donaldson A/C
the mack ones draw the dirty air thru the middle n clean air to donk from the outside
Donaldson work the opposite dirty air to outside n clean air to center
with time all mack cab doors eventually hit the A/C housing
no big deal (unless U B 25 stone in weight) LOL
for memory the mounting brackets have large holes so u can slop them around a tuch
on an R model if U move the A/C/ brakets tooo far 4ward the hood hits when tiltin

Eye'm a gr8 B lever to not fix sumthing th@ aint broke

Dan, they are standard Mack air filters that they used on the Cool Powers and Superliners with the V8 in them. They used smaller Donaldson ones in the Superliners with Caterpillars and Cummins in them, as well as the R600 with the 237 motor. I think you will find the LH air filter bracket is a standard Mack one as well. All the local manufacturers, Mack/ White KW, would just get a bit of 6mm plate and bend it and cut it to make brackets to hang stuff off the cab.

when i first saw the air cleaner i said mack i was right the brackets should be at any wrecker if it has had a little nudge in the side the brackets will have pushed the side of the cab in slightly when you have it in bits get a solid bit of wood 4 x 4 place it inside the cab and give it a bit of persuasion with the sledge hammer until it sits where you want it there is a reinforcement bracket on the inside so you will be moving it as well dont be surprised if a bit of filler falls out or cracks you can replace it after you are happy where panel is sitting i have repaired a lot of these over the years rebuilds and roll overs i have not found one without filler in it even when new you can also make small shim plates to get it spot on or put a bit more filler in and sand until your happy cheers don

....i have to agree with aussiehooker that you will not find an early r model (flintstone, tilt bonnet, 700series etc) that has not had body filler in and around the forward cowl area....nothing to do with repairs ..just factory (possiby pertaining to rhd) work for a variety of reasons unexplained so far.

cheers
