hi guys, i have been lurking on here for the past week and thought id better say hi and post up a couple of pictures of the ute i bought last week. its a 1938 fargo deluxe from what i can work out so far.

Now that is a nice old piece, looks in ok shape to for something with a lot of birthdays to its name.
Would be a TJ Richards body i think. Bet the old side valve lives with a bit of thumbing.
Whats your plans for it.

When the pic of your Fargo Deluxe popped up on the screen I thought "mmmmm that's a tidy little treasure".

Then I saw you are in SA, so here's hoping we can coerce you into joining the HCVC and coming along to our week-end touring events. The Fargo will fit in real
well.

it was running apparently a few years ago then the owner past away and has been shedded since,
i bought a battery yesterday and have changed the oil and ready to fire it up. any tips to starting it up?

Drop the plugs out and spin it over a while with no compression and no spark to get the oil circulating around everywhere. It might even register some oil pressure if it has a gauge fitted. Once you've given it a bit of a "dry run", stick the plugs back in and crank it up.

well i put some fuel in it today and dropped some oil in each cyl and cranked it over for a bit as bulgy suggested.
put the plugs back in and got a few coughs and splutters out of it before the battery started to get down.
so while the charger is on i might have a look at the fuel bowl/filter and see if it is full of crap as it seemed as though there wasn't much fuel coming through.

WOW! That is such a great example - and boy begin a Fargo it is rare - thankyou for saying you are going to keep it original!!

To get it going if you can run petrol out of a subtitute tank (i.e a small boat fuel tank etc) do so. Check you have spark and it should fire up aok. The side valves in these things are prity good old things!

yeah rare one alright so far i haven't found any pics of one the same with a rear quarter window? and yeah its a TJ Richards body.
also whats the stud on the rh front guard for it looks a bit like an ant mount but my guess is a mirror hung off it
