Hi Bruce .. i'm not entirely convinced those big air intake flange brackets are original to your truck...
...i've never seen them in that style, but the brackets holding the hoop clamps look thoroughly correct...there may have been a local mod carried out at some point and for originality's sake, i ask others for their input.....

Chappo had never seen them either Phil but if you look at the Ianelli's 'Night Stalker' it is also a 78 square edged truck and has an airfoil and matching intakes. Phil Geer has pics of the truck when it came up in primer from Bayswater and from what I know they were factory fitted. But it would be interesting to know for sure. Also, it's bare aluminium under them with traces of the blue on the edges, looks as though they were on there well before it ever saw paint.............

Bruce
I am starting to think with how close you are to fully stripping the cab that it might not be worth stripping it completely and start the re paint from bare metal thus eliminating any chance dramas with the old and new paint but I'm sure your painter knows what he doing.
? Are you using 2 pak

...righto Bruce, i'll try the painters approach
...
...notice the blue is definitely on the fibreglass roof skin but not on the back aluminium wall...this tells me that those hoop clamp brackets were fixed to the cab at the point of the previous paint strip but subsequently lifted to have the big flange brackets slipped up underneath after the beige paint was applied....have a look at the back of the big flange brackets...blue (or bare) will say they're original and beige will say they're not...that should be a fair rule of thumb?...
...also, if original there will be a part number stamped into those big brackets....cheers mate

You got me all intrigued Phil, I just rugged up and went out to have a closer look. There's no part number on any of the brackets. They have been mounted through rivet holes so they lined up with the bracing inside the cab. As for the paint, there has been no paint at all behind them, the beige and the blue/white has been painted to the edge. The fibreglass is grey under where they were mounted so I'm not sure. Not that it matters too much but I'll get onto max and find out if it came up from Bayswater with them mounted, they may have been fitted by Airshield when the airfoil was fitted up, not sure if it was done in the factory or not
And Trev, you're right there's not too much more to remove but I'll leave it up to the painter, he said that he'll strip it off if needs be - as long as I don't have to do it, I'm too old for all that hard work :'( :'( :'(

Can't make it out in the photo but was there any sign of the chassis number in texta on the frame above the rear window Bruce?

Yes Bruce everything from Kenworth was a bolt and nut for a long time.
Im very thankful that now they use nut inserts.
Bunk grab handles are a buggar when the inner trim is on and inside brace riveted over the nut access.
We cut the bolt heads off and fit nut inserts to avoid the problem.
