Is it a Karrier Gamecock? I thought that was the name of the small model.
Both Commer and Karrier were part of the Rootes group.

I'm really not sure. I think it is a Karrier Bantam but I wouldn't know. Lovely little thing. I am getting it de-rated for much cheaper registration.

Good chance you are right, I don't know much at all about them, but I've heard of a Bantam.
Bloke in Dubbo had one, it might still be there.

There is actually not much written about these as the focus goes on the larger Commers. The gamecock was rated as a 3/4 tonner and the Bantam as 4/5 ton. One had 20' wheels and the other 16". Split screens gave way to one piece in the late 50's. There was a budget model in the late 50's which had little chrome and a constant mesh gearbox instead of the usual syncro, as well as other cutbacks from the Rootes quality. They were a Karrier design but some wore the Commer badge. I believe (idstbc) that the lighter one had a 4 cylinder version of the Humber motor while the bigger one had the usual 6 cylinder slant as fitted to the larger Commer QX series.
Getting de-rated ? From what to what?

g'day hank and all .. things look a bit arse about....yours looks like a bantam and dmulally's looks to be the gamecock....only going by the wheels and the cab steps as a comparison :-? :-?

...even in their short life out here you can see quite a few differences between the two...the grille and radiator filler being particularly noticeable...

...all things being equal hank may have met with a few improvements over the years.....cheers

The differences in cab details would relate to age in a very long production run and not model. A 1961 buyers guide gives the Bantam (introduced 1948) tipper as 4.3 tonne gvm, and the regular Bantam as 5.1 tonne gvm, with either 4 cylinder petrol or diesel motors. Tell em yours is a tipper - and you fit under the 4.95 gvm bar without any 'de-rating'.

The Gamecock (introduced 1950) was listed with a 6.8 tonne gvm with either 6 cylinder petrol or diesel motor or the knocker motor.
Some details are conflicting between different sources.

The fact that Commer kept changing the design of the front of these things, mostly as each new model came (I think) may have had some influence too.
