Getting more top end speed from a Morris LC5? was created by LincolnLC5
Hi, Any ideas/methods for getting another 5 - 10mph from a 1957 LC5 (i.e. freeway/highway speeds)? My truck is a sweety. Just 26,000 miles ever (genuine!) A low gear screamer (like all LC5's) - but just a bit more legs would make her spot on.
Cheers

Reality is that the only way to get more speed is to put a sail up on a windy day. Jokes aside, there is no point trying to gear up as she just doesn't have the power to pull a higher gear. (more speed = more rolling resistance and more importantly, wind resistance cubed) As they say, smell the flowers and enjoy the ride.

Not sure were you are but you could talk to someone like
www.transgearsdiffs.com.au/contact.html
and they might be able to make you up a new crown wheel and pinion set $$$$$ and more $$$$$ but as mamoth said will it have the go to pull them or will you be needing to change down gears at the site of every ant hill or a bit of head wind.
Drive it as it was built slow and steady.

...would it be a thought to fit an overdrive gearbox (with suitable adaptation) from a late model jigger... and have the minor improvement in speed for the easy running...and then not using the overdrive for the more strenuous stuff

An alternative?
Im not sure on the size and capablities etc of this vehicle.
Could a 'joey' box be fitted? Room permitting of course.
Keep the original shafts etc in tact, should you need it back to 'original' one day
9 times out of ten it will run around in direct, should the conditions be favourable, slip it into overdrive.
