...BTW welcome to the forum LC5 .. in this situation i reckon an auxillary just complicates things that little bit more with a heap of things to consider...

the 'box, bearings, uni's or repairs add more to costs and maintenance...also more moving parts with linkages, half shafts, gearshift remote and an appropriate set up for the introduction of the second stick through the cabin floor....with associated sealing and noise problems and seating/clearance considerations...

...the physical mounting of the joey...with regards to crossmembers, driveline angles, wheelbase and access to other sub assemblies belonging to the original fitout of the truck...

an ''economical'' solution might be an o/d box out of a Japanese banger of similar dimensions to the original 4 speed...and that shouldn't be too difficult to execute.....cheers mate :) :)

I found the easiest way to make my AR 110 go quicker was put it on a trailer behind a Kenworth.
Seriously mate, if it doesn't go quick enough, take it on the back of something else, gearing it up will just spiol it.

I also have an lc5 and I feel your pain, it would crawl up a wall, but can't keep up with cyclists! But I agree, gearing it up would push the limits with the 2.2L 4 cyl.
Unfortunately Morris built their vehicles for winding country lanes >:(
Putting it behind the kenworth may work out cheaper even if you had to buy the kenworth first!, partly why I bought a bus! :-?
I think we Morris drivers are just destined to be last in the convoy ;)

If the LC5 is the same drive line as the LD5 then find a 3ton 6cyl. Austin or Morris diff. from the same period and it should fit in your housing. They are the same but a slightly higher ratio.

A MUCH simpler solution:
I fitted 8.25 X 16 tyres on the back wheels (instead of 7.50 X 16) and got the desired result..... BUT of course it stuffs the gearing up a bit going up hills. I can achieve a 100km/h speed after a 1 km run up (with no head wind) :-) It might actually be a bit faster since the speedo would be out a bit with the bigger back wheels.

Don't lose sight of the fact that if you make it go faster, you're still relying on the old braking system to stop you. It probably won't. :-/

Hi Bugly,
It's only a bit faster, and I haven't had ANY problems ever trying to stop it.
I also intend to fit a remote power booster this time round, which should help...
The handbrake mechanism is going to be a challenge to bring up to scratch: it's not one of the better systems.
