Hi,
The quality and price of offerings by genuine collectors/ restorers isn't actually the problem.
What always seem to set the bush alight is it the "what's it worth" dicks that come on the forum with 5 posts to their name.
That, and the fly by night posers that find a mangled piece of rusty, fungus covered iron (What is it? they often ask.) on a friend of great great grand uncles farm
or abandoned in the bush - and take it to mind that they are sitting on a division one bonanza.
"And that's when the fight started."
We've been very good little Vegemite's for the past 6 or 8 months and have clearly learned from past mistakes, not to play the fools game - by keeping our collective mouths shut. :-X
It's a good section, with much incidental learning and well worth the keeping. (and maybe bag a bargain in the process)

P.S. I have a truck for sale, no price, no description, no location, no picture, no idea. Why do they bother?

It's not the question 'What is it worth" that is normally the issue. It's normally the lack of information to enable that decision to be made accurately that starts the problem.
Also recently while chasing a motor for my Inter I was given some leads in good faith but when I chased one of them up old mate must have thought they were gold plated as his mate had told him that old inters bring good money so a d line Inter with bad rust in every panel, cracked chassis, buggered diff and powered by a 281 was worth $20, 000! I didn't even bother to make an offer they were so convinced that to take less would be to rip themselves off that I was abused as a trye kicker and time waster.
So this sort of issue is not just on the forum, it happens on Facebook and in person as well.

I think there was some discussion on this a year or so ago. People advertising something and putting in "No time wasters" is the ultimate arrogance. As Bparo says if you do not buy something no matter how overpriced or falsely described, let alone it simply does not meet your needs you are condemned as a tyre kicker.
In my experience the more feral or lacking in business dealings the seller is the more likely he will put in "No time wasters"
The standard of ad on this forum has maintained a level of two way respect that is very good and I think we can get over the minor slips in etiquette without restrictions for the huge majority of gentlemen.

Lang, another one that annoys me is "if not sold going to scrap", generally followed by a price well above scrap value.
If the vendor was serious, they wouldn't muck around trying to sell it, they'd just ring the scrappy and get bugger all for it.

I will admit that I have been blasted by others for questioning or commenting on their exuberant price, when, if it doesn't sell, will be sent to scrap.
In the discussions that follow, it then turns out they have spent money in doing this and that to an otherwise rusty pile of parts, and now the exuberant price is only to get back what they have already spent, and isn't so bad after all.
If they had made mention of why they wanted x amount of dollars, or better yet, listed all of the relevant details, the ensuing conflict would have been avoided.

There has been some discussion which is waiting on me to do some research.
We have also been reading this thread to try to ensure what we do is in line with what the members want.
I also had a Microsoft automatic update to my computer fail and stuff things up so badly that it deleted the things I needed to fix it, wouldn't let me access my documents etc. The only fix was to reinstall everything from the start and I am about halfway through that as I need it to apply for work.
Obviously to me that is a higher priority than the forum at the moment.

A suggestion .Would it be possible to have posting delayed subject to moderators approval .
I know it adds more workload ,but in the long run ,may ease the task .
So many times there is a new member throws up a for sale thread .Gives no location, sketchy Details ,Gives a phone number , then buggers off never to return and answer questions .
If a moderator looks before it is posted ,then PM the seller to make suggestions to make the ad forum friendly , should be win win all round .
