Werk, I reckon it is a 7000- I had one once, it was a bloody terrible truck. It had a Cat V8 that was 175 hp, sort of a more underpowered 3208 (hard to believe, I know)
Murray told me this had a V8 cat originally, and it has no power steer, just like the one I had.
Pretty sure the 8000's had factory 3208's, and power steer standard- back in the day, they were almost a big-ish truck (well, compared to a 1418 anyway)
I do remember CAT car carrier's had a heap of them when they were new, most were subbies, and the blokes that bought them had all sorts of problems with them blowing up at 100,000 miles. The poor little Cat's just weren't designed as an interstate truck, they would have been revving their brains out, and working their guts out carrying 8 cars Melbourne to Brisbane.. I think most of the fellows replaced them with 9000's, with the 903's, and that solved the problem, they became part of the "quick" set then!
So thats why I reckon this little girl has a 653- the original Cat cried "enough"!
Murray reckon's it's been a good little truck since then, and he's had it a long time!
Cheers,
Richard

Werk, I'm fairly certain They never sold a LN/LNT 800 here in Aust..

I reckon It's a LN900.. as they never had power steering..

The LN700/7000 were the Previous models F700 with the Louisville Cab.& had a Lighter riveted chassis, Narrow front Axle & Narrower Bonnetwithout the wagon wheel air intake, Single plate Hydraulic clutch which was a Barst Bugger of a thing (ask me how I know this)

I reckon when the Petrol engine died they fitted a 3208 & when It Died they fitted the 6V53... BISTBC

Just had another look through all of this thread.

Originally a V8 Cat = 7 or 8 series
fuel tank both sides = 9 series (7 series has step both side and 8 series had r/h step l/h D shaped tank)
Dash gauges (speedo/Tacho) = 9 series (7 and 8 series had the gauge bevel as part of the panel and were mounted from behind not from the front through the panel like the 9 series)
Bonnet = 8 or 9 series ( 7 series had scoop on top in front of driver)

Only thing I can say for sure is it's a 1976 model LN

I'd say it's definitely grandads axe ;)

We're going to have to get Prodrive to get Pics of the 2 data plates on the Passenger side B pillar to work out what It is/was.....

My money is on It being a LN900..

Well it COULD be a 900- Hoveys had heaps in Geelong, as per the pic above- that looks like the correct height etc too.
But old mate definitely said it had a Cat originally, and it was Beckley's transport. He reckoned it used to run to Sydney occaisionally too - now that would be a long trip in one of those underpowered jiggers. Then again, I do remember seeing Hovey's petrol Louey's up the Hume too. What a mongrel drive that must have been...
The Beckley's thing fits with the green paint inside to doors, and if thats the case, it would be a 7000, same as the one I had? AND (or but) the one I had was red, and you can see red under the green under the white! And Hoveys were of course red too, and being in geelong, owned by a farmer, you'd kind of expect it to have been a local truck for most of it's life.

So - It could be a 7000- Cat engine, no power steer, and so on. (There is one of these on Gumtree right now, with a stock crate on it.)
OR - it could be a 900, petrol engine replaced with Cat engine, then replaced with GM??? But wouldn't a LN 900, with a petrol engine have a 5 speed tranny and two speed diff?
The plot thickens....but my five bucks is on LN 7000..
I'll ask old mate when I see him- but until then, what say you?
cheers!

Hi All .. just wading in ... ;D ;D ;D...the petrol powered louis' had a different grille with the perimeter blanked off leaving a smaller square hole out front, also the dual LH seat tells a tale there as well ??...so the Cat diesel theory is pretty sound at this juncture 8-) :-*

Well that makes it either an LN7000 or LN8000.

I still think it's an 8000 ;) ;D

These are a LN7000 and LN8000 and you will notice the 8000 is a lot higher, the said truck is to high to be a LN7000, but saying that I have been wrong once or twice before, :-? :-? :-? :-?
