I reckon it must be a converted semi, don't know of round nose pup ( or dog) trailers.

Yes, they did have dollies for the WW2 Freighter trailers (both round and the more common square front).

Looking for a photo.

Poor photo but shows they had dollies (taken Brisbane 1943). Square front Freighter - about 3 times more of these were built than the round front but because the square ones looked like any other trailer the round front models became known as THE army trailer.

Just noticed the drawing in the trailer parts manual shows the spare on the front!

The only reason I can think of to lose a big area of the tray to put on rounded front corners is to to be able to use very short prime movers. If you are going to have to push the pin back to stop the spare hitting the cab you may as well have a full usable square tray and put the tyre underneath? Maybe this bit of intelligence caught someone's attention because all the later war trailers were built square. The trailer in the sale has obviously been modified to square to create more load capacity.

In the first picture, in front of the AB180, you can just see the front of a round nosed army trailer. This trailer had the round front section cut off and became the dog trailer in the second photo.

We did not realise they would be sought after in years to come, it was just an old trailer, cheap and suited my purpose.

Both photos taken in 1968.
