Hi guys,

I have a new project on the go, which calls for a special built 7m trailer, which will then need a towing vehicle capable of pulling at least 4ton to include trailer weight.

Currently I don't have either :-(

My next option is to consider buying a flat bed truck, which I can put on historic rego and use occasionally without $1200 on rego.

It needs to carry an aircraft cockpit, which weighs in at 3ton on its own and is 23ft long.

Ideally located in SA, just so I don't have the hassle with collection and the pits, but I suppose I would consider all options if the price was right.

Budget is an issue though, as trailer will cost roughly $4-4500 at mates rates, so needs to be a realistic comparable price for a truck.

A modern equivalent would be something like an extended Isuzu 450 long or a Hino FB4J.

Any suggestion warmly welcome and I have a 2 week window to source something.

Cheers

Bob

Are you sure aircraft cockpit weighs 3 tonnes ? Is there any weight that could come out of it ?

Nice. But 220hp NA that would have to be a 6 cyl?

And by the way - why do you want a 4cyl? If you're doing historic rego surely some form of tax isn't an issue? And does the no of cylinders even factor in anymore with a truck?

Thanks for the tips and info guys.
Yes that's a nice truck Lang, but as you say, a long way away and probably too big for my need.
Swishy, already considered that option, but I may have to travel interstate a few times a year, so getting it there would then be expensive.
Wedgetail, I was adviced that a 4cyl would be cheaper and easier to maintain.
Atkipete, yes it probably weighs just over 3000kg, even without a nose wheel fitted, as each seat weighs 70kg on their own.
And Lang, if you know your planes it's an F-4J

And it was built in 1966, so it's historic hopefully :-)
