Years ago, I was given a EX radio station standby generator. 3 phase 100 kva powered by a Cummins 6BT turbo engine. The log book came with it, in service the machine was very unreliable , mainly due to the poor electrical design of the huge switchboard.  The fuel tank was the floor . A big tilt tray arrived , all free !

I kept it for a few years but as it was taking up space and way too big for domestic use, I gave it to a local farmer . He arranged for a crane he arrived with his truck. He told me later on that he bought new batteries and got it running. I heard that he then scrapped it. He sold the engine to a truck owner. The machine was huge ,  a container sized box. The box lifted off the fuel tank base , exposing the inside.  I had no facilities or crane to work on the monster,  I should have sold the motor, but it was all out of my league.

Sounds like the same sort of set up Channel 9 had mounted on a 6 x 2 UD. Used to take it all over Australia to the Test and Day-night cricket and when they had the Gran prix to telecast.

Same deal, 600hp Cummins, the fuel tank was in the base. It was the size of a 20" container and fully silenced, with the doors being about 18" thick and becoming the air entry through a track between the inner and outer sections of the door. Couldn't hear it run from 10 feet away.

Thi

The genny I had, it was a backup power unit  for a ABC radio transmitter. It was a lemon, it never worked properly from when it was new. They had it set up at Mildura , it was then moved down to East Gippsland . The log book entries described a lot of faults and problems they had with it. It must have cost the Commonwealth Govt. thousands $$$ to buy it. Waste of money !

Yes the box was well insulated, the doors were very thick. It had a large control panel with many gauges and switches and buttons ... like a NASA rocket launch.
