Thanks all , Kenny I,am 99% certain it was 74 and DETECTIVE I think the area between grill and bumper was metal (or part of the grill) that was painted black and as for the body I think your right , it does look like a tray body. Heres a few photos from the brochure I bought, I am sure my Fathers truck did not have the "split" front axle shown on the brochure ? His was a solid one piece axle , Keep your eyes open for me , I guarantee the finder a slab of his choice thanks "MO"

Hi Mo, the panel below the grille is actually part of the stainless grille surround. The actual grille panels are plastic, going around the headlamps as well.
Unless it was a four wheel drive (& by the hub caps it appears to be a two wheel drive) it will be a twin I beam front suspension. The twin I beam was introduced to F series 2wd pickups in the early 1950's(around 1954 I think)
Have fun in your search mate & all the best from downunder. Cheers Tim

Yep I would agree with that Tim , I knew every inch of that truck (thats me top pic on the right aged 11) I crawled all over it from day 1 , I just wish I had took pics of the VIN plate . As you can see by the photos the hubcaps are different on the brochure and the clocks in the dash were not the same as those in the brochure either. I am still not sure about the front axle , but if the brochure and you say it had it then perhaps it did ? I sent away to the States for one of these
www.lmctruck.com/scripts/mgrqispi.dll?AP...TS=-ATK,-AFC&Make=FD
a lot of it is different but the basics are the same , now all I have to do is find the truck ;) one thing My dads truck did have was a unique steel privatly made heavy duty step up towbar that I would recognize. It was full width but I dont have any pics , "MO"

Hi Mo, Timbo is on the money, all the 4X2's had the twin I beam from the 50's I think.
With your avatar, you don't use the IMG code, but the URL instead. I'll have a look for you. Cam.
P.S. after reading the posts on the Septic Tank forum, them Seppo's think there is only one place on earth, don"t believe all the B.S. that comes from there. Why would a South American F truck have a Cortina instrument panel? It wouldn't, but an Aussie one would, along with a Falcon steering colomn with the gear lever on the left side for an auto, as it should.
They will probobly tell you Louisvilles were only made in Kentucky as well. LOL. They out to get out a bit more and see the world.

Hey Mo, does it really have to be the same one? I know a lot of blokes have that sentimental attatchment, but the reason I bought one a couple of years ago was I used to drive the one my Dad had when I was about 12, and it was a great ute. The one my father had only had the old 250 Falcon motor in it. But when I bought the yellow one a couple of years ago I bought a V8, because I like the sound they make, if you look at the pic of the yellow one you weill see 2 chimneys coming out in front of the back wheel. Piont I'm making is, why not just try and get a real good one with a V8 and the truck 4 speed gearbox? There are a few about, I can't remember exactly what I paid for the yellow one, but it was only $3-3,500 from memory. The Green one with all the XLT gear on it is Dads old one. He went to pick it up and they had put the XLT pack on it by mistake, should have gone on another one, he wasn't too happy because he reckoned them drilling all the holes for the trim would promote rust, bit he took it anyway, obviously they had to throw the XLT pack in seeing as it was the dealers stuff up.
And if anyone is checking out the back ground that is a Dodge with a 6V53 in it. LOL.
