Oil sampling - Brisbane was created by clarkyinaus
Thinking about trying a new oil in one of the tractors, and want to test the current oil (Caltex Delo 400) @ 250hrs before changing to JD +50 which we are meant to be able to run for 500hrs.
I have googled oil sampling in Brisbane and wondering if anyone has used any of the mobs down there and can recommend one over the other.
cheers

When I was using to do my oil samples, they used to get komatsu to do them on their behalf.
I've found that William Adams are cheaper and quicker results via setting up an online option.

Thanks Camma,
Got it sorted, local dealer has just started stocking the kits. Will be interesting to see how the results go.
cheers

With sampling you may find you can extend the hours on your current oil.
Change by hours is just the manufacturers way of a basic bench mark for run of the mill oils
Sampling can allow you to alter the change periods,
of course for small oil capacity this is not cost effective but when large volumes are in use it can be.
Usually sample at a set point, change the filters and continue till the sampling indicates the oil has reached the end of it's useful life.
Another good life extender is an oil centrifuge to help keep the oil clean, some Volvo diesels only had centrifuges and no oil filter.
Cheers Steve

Yep hear what your saying BD, but while under warranty we play the game with these tractors!!
Currently running 250hr oil & filter on Caltex Delo 400, they are suggesting a different oil and filter with 500hr changes.
We run machines in extremely dusty environments and even with very good filtration more regular oil changes than clean running highway work are not a bad idea.

Ahh warranty, that does tie you down a bit.
I know all about dusty conditions and contaminated oil.
Oilfield,mining and farming.
Certainly spend a lot of time cleaning air filters and trying to keep dust out of any lubed systems.
Detroit used to say 150 hours for their early 2 strokes, we used to go 250 minimum with out problems.
Ran 500 hours using Mobil 15w40 in Cat 3412's running compressors, samples always came back good.
Believe a lot of contamination comes during servicing, not storing oil filters properly and dirty containers when transfering oil or topping up.
The centrifuges are a good investment, once you have seen what they pull out of oil you would never run engines without them, Google Spinner ll for info

Gidday Fellas,
My two bobs worth, for what it's worth.... I bough a new Jd a while back and used jd oil in it did the services every 250hrs religiously also did Cat Scheduled Oil Sampling, SOS. No problems at all Cat samples were good. JD brought out the +50 which I was told meant +50% of the hours between changes which I took to mean 250 + 125 = 375hrs. Bought a drum was at least + 50% on buy cost.... Ran it for 2 oil changes, The tractor started to use oil at the 250hr mark, It had never used oil before. I have always been told that a motor using oil was an indicator that the oil was beyond it's use by date, i.e. worn out... SOS said as much as well... I then changed to Fuchs and continued on at 250hr intervals and no more trouble... Fuchs ? because JD oil is or was blended by them. I have been reminded again recently about, and used previously Bimrose oil... It is expensive but it seems to be good. You can even talk to the guy who makes it Tom Bimrose. He is based in Rockhampton Qld and sends his oil all over. He will also give you phone numbers of clients to talk too for testimonials, if you want... I will use his oil now for a while... By the way the JD has 11 000 hours on it and no engine rebuild..... Doesn't use oil yet either, and not looking like a rebuild is in the wind. Something must be working. Just remember that OIL is cheap no matter what it costs {within reason} Down time and engine rebuilds are not... I run my tractors in very dusty conditions Laser (GPS Now) levelling There would be few jobs that are harder in terms of dust. Hope that helps. Good luck Neil.

I have got to agree with using oil spinners. The amount of soot they pull out is incredible. If the engine has gone over a service or the spinner paper hasn't been changed at the service they are herd to pull apart.
I have started working for a company that is running 2 cummins isx egr's in a fleet of mainly cat and detroit. One engine with just over 600000km was shutting down with a blocked oil filter well before the service was due. We fitted spinner 2's to them and have had no problems since. Use the 90.
