Back in the 60's when I was much younger, the local bus company Stewart and Son would import old UK bus chassis and drive them on the open chair up to Bundaberg, kitted out with goggles and flying jacket.
Once in their workshop they'd shift the underfloor engine out to the rear, turn the diff over and backwards, quite a lot of work to build their own rear engined coaches.
Very clever blokes.

IDSTBC- BUT i'm sure they still transport buses in Africa like this, today. I reckon I saw someone's pics a while ago, and saw a pic just like thse ones. (Life's cheaper over there...)
I've been googling "africa bus" and so on, but I can't find any images, dammit. Hopefully someone smarter than me will though!
Cheers
Richard

Someone just told me that new buses/coaches don't have chassis anymore that they are now monocoque construction. Is this correct???

Some bus models do come in "buggy" form - basically front and rear sub-frames which are attached to the monocoque body.

At RFW we use to do that all the time. Testing with 6 or so people hanging on to the rails = checking / listening as we drove the streets.
Two kitchen seat bolted to the frame and test runs up Razorback range with 20 ton of concrete blocks chain to the chassis.
Chassis had; leaf springs, coil springs & air bags or combinations of all, depending on customers requirements
chassis Driven to Brisbane , Melbourne & Adelaide but most to Custom Coaches Guildford
