2 stroke emergency stops??? was created by Dig a ditch
G'day
What do people use for an emergency stop?
My 892 has the flap on the intake and also has a solinoid next to it but it has no cable or lever to engage the flap.
So I'm thinking either get another solinoid and have a switch on the dash or use some thing mechanical like a choke cable for a car.
After watching the videos on YouTube of 2stroke running away I'm a bit scared of it happening to me so I want to sort it out.
Cheers

After having one run wild with me I wouldn't even think of starting one without the emergency cable VERY close by.
Scared the be-Jesus outta me!!!

Are you sure you've got an 8V92?
The 8V92's and later 71's and 53's didn't have an emergency stop, they had spring loaded racks so that one injector seizing wouldn't make the motor run away.
8V71's have the emergency stop, just ask Browny. LOL.
What does your engine number start with? 8VA or 8VF?
8V92's and 8V71's look very similar.
Yes, you defiantly want one if has the older style racks. The solenoid is just to activate it, then you usually have to manually reset it, again, just ask Browny.

G'day
Thanks fellers, the engine number starts with 8vf. I'm sure it's a 92 cause its stamped on the side of the block.
The flap is spring loaded and you do have to reset it manually once it's shut. I had a better look at the solinoid earlier and it does t look as though its been connected for a long time and seams as though the cable part of it is missing on the inside, so I reckon it's a total throw away.
So will a choke cable be enough, it doesn't require much force to release the flap.
Cheers

Yep, 8VF is a 92.
Any old cable will work as long as you can get to it if you need to. Try and mount it where no one will accidently use it as a motor stop.

Just Ask Swishy.
"if it ain't screamin your only dreamin"
Even though I've never worked on a GM I hear many stories hence the Warning below:
WARNING: if you are trying to set up the jake brake, make sure you place the rocker covers back on before you start it.If you decide to take the risk, you will soon see your engine change colour 3 times from key start to stop. first up, your engine will turn gloss black to start with and change to fire red when the oil hits the manifold and then matt black once the fire goes out.

Hm-m-m-m,
I'm becomeing increasingly intrgued with this 2 stroke diesel/ screamer concept.
Noisy, smokey, oily, can run away, blow up spectacularily and end in fire ?
WOW ! !
I want one.
I've got this great idea . . .
and will definitly have some questions to ask at the Hills Run display grounds.
See ya there.

P.S.
(I'm put in mind of the eary Kwaka 2 stroke triples, deadly to ride but lots of fun.)
LOL
