Hmm, perhaps you've never heard of Leader trucks at all, Cyril's creations used the CAT motor as the stock standard base unit, be it the 3208's or the 3306's. Quite a few hundred of these beasts are still running around today with no problems.
Maybe you might broaden your horizons a tad, if you got hold of any Truckin'Life or Truck and Bus magazines from that era, and just had a squiz thru them, to see which truck manufactures were offering CAT motors to be fitted to their product.
The 3408's were offered by Mack and KW, the same goes for the 3406's.
White's had the option of the 3406 or the 3306 motors, so plenty were available.
Fords were available with the 3208's as well.
That's just here in Australia too, American truck manufacturers offered the same options with Cat engines, only they have quite a few more brands, than we do here.
Maybe the reason 'you've' never heard about them, is because they are so trouble free, they are not in your face with problems, like you get with GM's or Cummins.

ps - go your hardest Swishy and Chocs, CAT's are still a better motor. [smiley=vrolijk_26.gif]

You have certainly got these ol blokes thinkin..
Look at the information that has come out about trucks fitted with these Ol Grader Motors..
Gday Greenie
I thought you had given us away, haven't seen ya for ages...
A very informative answer to Young Mates post..
Well Greenie.....
I can honestly say that in 35 years on the road.....
Never once has a Cat let me down.
Not once have i ever been stranded by a Jimmy..
However 10 months ago, i did require a little assistance to return home with an 855 Cummins..
Still running though...wounded but far from dead..
(An original fitment of 40 plus years i might add)
We show no bias here but openly admit....
Cummins is my personal choice...not because they are best, but perhaps better than most..

chocs
PS..
i couldn't leave that offer alone..now...we just gotta wait for Swishman..i'm sure he will be along soon...

Th@ can B driven to the max n survive is a good one
a good one iz also one u dont need to baby it but work it
th@ dun mean over revin or luggn the beast
Screemers luv revs n U'll do less harm to a screemer
rev n itz ring out than make it work down in the max torque range
comparing a screemer to a horse the screemer B the race horse th@ gets there quik the other 4 strokers R more like draught horses for pullin power
any engine iz good while there able to max out n not cause damage or self destruct
parts for screeemerz were available @ just about any cnr store @ a moderate price
but when U need parts for a C@ or crummins me thinks U need to go cap in hand to visit u're bank manager.......th@'z provide n parts R stihl available
C@ R/were a good engine but they have lost the plot n got out of automotive engines az me thinks they could not meet the polution requirements
all the nu engines have computers n if u get a lemon it could break U
LOL
Well TH@'zTheWayEyeCIt
cya
OF ALL THE THINGS EYE MISS ................. EYE MISS MY MIND THE MOST
There's more WORTH in KENWORTH

Unfortunatly the 3208 is exactly a power house and used to struggle pulling a dog in the wet harvests.....tranny used to get a little more than warm.
