I'm thinking that last photo would have been a pain to reverse into a loading dock..especially with the wheelbases and man-power steering...

Still a few details missing on the AFL beastie for the curious.
What was the rest of the spec - transmission, front & rear axles, suspension?
What work was it doing with AFL between when it was built in 1951 and it's use on the Dew Line project in 1954-5?
Perhaps Swishy could prevail on CC to complete the story and send scans of the rest of the Commercial Car Journal article. Please.

...g'day mrsmack .. dear old dad may have been remembering the old ASC160 Inters...when i was a kid these things were definitely high society
...early days the big Inter cabover jiggers in the USA were known to them as ''high binders''...eventually the nickname was shortened to ''binder'', and these very stylish rigs went on to become the DCO Inters that we all know and love, with the CO series (diamond cab) being modified, raised and elevated to become the DCO 405 (single drive) or DCOF 405 (bogie drive) premium linehaul trucks, operated right through the late 'fifties and well into the 'sixties
