Some EX Kwikasair / Comet 8 wheelers

One friday the chief says to me, how would you like to take a load to Black Springs

(near Oberon) on sunday?. Two loads have to go , & TZ(my son in law) is taking

the other one.....OK. So we decide to make it a family run(take our wives

& TZs kids)

We meet the house to be owner at Black Springs & he guides us to the site about

20Ks away. He had bought 25 acres from a local cockey. Small dirt tracks most of the way,

& the site about 1K through the paddock with no track in, & only a small gate amongst

a pile of trees. Now it had rained over night & still didnt look too good, with this in mind

we have a look & sez to the owner we may not get in ok. No worries he says, the cocky

has a large 4WD tractor we can use if need be. So i decides to give it a go.


Finally gets through the gate, then in with the diff lock & into it. Gets a couple of 100 yards

from the building area & thats it. Owner says ill duck up & get the tractor. He gets back,

we hook it up & no way its gonna move the truck & trailer So, i unloads the trailer , then the

tractor manages to pull the truck to the site.




Next thing it starts raining & buckets down for about 1/2 hour, Eventually we get the truck

hooked up to the trailer & the tractor drags the lot back out to the road.

With the rain they couldnt get TZs truck & trailer in , so it was unloaded at the gate

By this time , wives & kids were getting pretty hungry & also a bit stroppy ( having already demolished

morning tea) Some how us blokes were supposed to be able to work miracles ?????

Anyway jobs finally done (Hooray says every body)

Lets get somthing to eat, so .........its into Black Springs where there was a small store &

& take away etc. The only thing available was hamburgers........ok that will do.

Waiting, waiting, waiting, The lady finally fronts with the hamburgers & says sorry about

the time, but the first lot of meat had some maggots in it ..........yeah....well....she didnt

really have to memtion that cos it went over like a lead balloon.

Did every one enjoy the feed???? They didnt have much choice.

Did we ever take the wives & kids with us again ?.....well they wernt
too keen & niether were we.

Billy, mate I can relate to that yarn,
Just about every time I went to either Rockly or Black springs, Murphys Law ruled. :'(
Only thing though, I never (rarely) had the presence of Mind to take Photos :-[

Yeah, Generally cameras wernt part of the deal, i dont even know why i had one

at the time. Its only later in life that you wish you had recorded more of what you

got up to earlier.
