Wondering if someone could help me with some history on an eight wheeler, tis a 74 model .The number on the compliance plate is 400987,am assuming that is the chassis number ?. I bought it off Prices as cab-chassis and put a tipping body on it,but I believe it was an ex JJ Richards hook truck that had been on an island off the Qld coast. It has 671t OD 15sp and eatons on hendrickson and it's a grouse farm truck. :) Cheers Tom

Heres an 819 story.

one time i was going to Kiama with a load of bricks on 819, we used to go via

Campbelltown & Appin Rd, across to the coast, & then down Mt Ousley to the coast road

to Kiama etc.

Leaving about 4 or 5 in the mornin, you were always runnign with the coalies in that area &

they always scooted along, so may be you would travel just that bit quicker .

Any way, this day i was on mt Ousley heading towards the Picton turn off which was

at the bottom of a big dipper situation, with a 1k run down & then a 1k climb up from it .

Here you used to get a bit mobile, let it run out on the Jacobs in each gear & when you

hit the bottom the 8/71 would be red lining.

Now this day i was three parts of the way down & just dropped into top slot, when theres

this almighty bang & every thing starts shaking like crazy.

A touch on the stoppers made it a whole lot worse,(you just couldnt hold onto the

steering wheel) so,with no alternatives i just had to let go.

Past the Picton turn off, it was half way up the hill before we pulled up amid a

cloud of smoke..Jumping out, ah haa, theres the problem, the r/h front steer tyre

had blown but still stayed on the rim, remarkably enough, but, it was that hot

it must have been next door to catching on fire.

Ever tried changing a tyre when you carnt even pick up the wheel nuts they are that hot ???

& then getting the old wheel back into the rack ??? I really felt like leaving the thing there.

Yeah...I guess it turned out ok , but was a bit of a worry for a while.

What do we say ??? just another day at the office, ! ! ! ! ..............Billy...............

I CAME INTO THIS WORLD WITH NOTHING & STILL HAVE MOST OF IT.........................

I used to be a truck driver,
but i am now not a truck driver ,
on a good day i can remember
that i used to be a truck driver.

G'day Billy and all .. thanks for all your stories Billy and the hazards of working back in the day 8-) 8-)

...Nephew Jason's 8 wheeler ghost was registered in NSW in 2000 (the rego disc is still on the LH 1/4 window) and she appears to have only ever been painted white over the original silver...

...is there a chance she may have been in with Zacuba all those years ago?....unit no was believed to be KT816

Tec,
Unless fleet NOs were changed, id say no.

814 had a double bubble air tank.

815, was the 1st at Zacuba,..........then 819.

There was no 816 or 817 in the fleet.

By web photos 813 with a sleeper cab was on the Darwin run,

I think..........Sorry about that .
