Greetings from overlander. I'm recently new as a member after seeing the model of the Detroit Devil. Another member also asked for a photo of Mcdonald's Autocar, hence my first post. I enlisted the help of the wheelchock to scan the photos and she did good but i would have liked to introduce myself before she clicked on post. Anyways, Schrapel's Traders had the Kw-k from new and no doubt traded it on one of the many Kenworths they ran when operating. When Tyrone Malone challenged Australia to beat him, Detroit Engine & Turbine Co with the help of Mr Mcdonald schemed they could, and did. The 12V71T was tricked up by the 'supertuners' with the help of the then Australia Detroit manager. Not a lot of media coverage after Bruce humiliated Tyrone. Afterwards the Kw-K returned to working and the 12V71T was built into a generator set which went to Brisbane. Oh yeah, the supertuners had an electric solenoid on the governor top preventing full fuel at stall as the Allison is only good for 600hp at stall. When the Allison shifted into 2nd lockup, the solenoid on the governor was told to cut loose and allow full fuel- from memory I think the supertuners milked a 100hp per pot and i was told Detroit America started phoning Detroit Adelaide hoping to learn how they shamed Tyrone malone.
I'll post some more pics of other topic interests when the wheelchock is happy to help.
