Detective, I found this lovely thing using Mr Google in Big Lorry Blogg and the caption reads Regular contributor Richard Stanier has sent me these two pictures and the following comment: "With regard to the excellent Australian Atkinson on yesterday's blog, I wondered if you may be interested in the attached scans from my collection." Err...I think that's a question demanding the answer yes! A "skippy cabbed" Atkinson Roadtrain

so does Skippy Cab refer to "Australian" or is there something else that makes this truck different?
and what a great picture. :o

...yeah, i guess Sarge that the ''skippy cab'' moniker would have to apply to all of our Mk's 1, 2 and 3, as well as the 3800 and 4800 series.... 8-) 8-) 8-)

...also that lovely pic shows a Russ bullbar....who no longer make bullbars unfortunately :'( :'(

Far be it from me to question Swischenmeisters integrity and impartiality, but I noted his comment about "slugs"

More like a slug try n to move

I wonder why it is that these AUSTRALIAN built trucks were chosen to do the real big work and the yankee stuff kept was on the bitumen with light loads.... or did I misunderstand something...:o :o :o

...to me it was horses for courses....i s'pose back in the sixties it was an Atkinson for the heavy moves and a Kenny or Pete for the highway stuff.....

.....of course the lines eventually got blurred! :P

It all comes down to gearing- Yankee iron was geared to do 100 MPH to get there yesterday and the Pommy stuff was geared for driving Miss Daisy around the countryside of a Sunday arvo...

...and the Macks back then have to get a mention when it came to the big shifts as well 8-)...

....jeeez .. the ''need for speed'' really made a hash of things for a few good truck manufacturing companies having to re invent the wheel trying to keep pace with the changing times .....
