Q.
Has the vehicle been registered in Australia before?
Does it have the engine and chassis numbers to match the previous registration?
Is it the original plate.?
Do the engine and or chassis numbers match that original plate.?
Do you have the previous registration papers.?
Proof of ownership from the previous owner?
If the better part of all that is yes.
I would make an appointment to speak with someone at vicroads.
Front up with all the information you have, I am sure there will be a solution, even if you were issued with a new Id plate and numbers to suit etc.
They are generally pritty good to deal with, if all the info can be provided.
Hope that helps?

G'day
You blokes r a very helpfull bunch!
Ill answer the questions, yes all the numbers match both on the plate and previous rego papers from Vic. I'm trying to register it in nsw.
The bloke doing the pink slip has done some invistigation with the local Rta officers. They came to the conclusion that its probably had a cab change at some stage and the plate has been lost. Interesting though that they both said the brass plate could not have been on the chassis due to the year of the truck!
So I've got a few bits of paper to sign and some details to give and I can get it registered. The next thing is the stuff I have to fix! Ill start another thread for that.
Cheers

Very good, hope it all turns out ok.
Always a trap if the tags are on the rear of the passengers door.
Even with a door swap, someone could quite innocently overlook the tags and they are gone forever..
international were right into door tags.
From memory yours is a mk3.? Probably should have had the chassis plate and cab tags.
Will you ask the rta for a new vin tag, so as you will be right next time?

...it appears the early plastic Atkinsons had very little in the way of any I.D's...
...Dig, if you would like to quote some numbers off the big chassis plate, we can decipher at least a rough year of the Chassis...

So does that mean it was once a sleeper or does full cab mean day cab?
Mines presently a day cab!
Anyway of telling if the year is correct?
Cheers

Well ditch..
I think that my chassis number designations, are about as accurate as my front end identification..
Sometimes.. They don't mean anything, just a number
