The rest of the arvo was about Mack stories , i shoulda had a tape recprder, but he sez you better take a
few pics before you go.
One yarn i will try to tell you , of corse there might be a few discrepancys , but i think i got the general
gist of things.
Now George, (weel call him that), at the time, probabily quite a few years ago, was contractin to the DMR
Id say possibly not all that far from the Emmaville area.or further north. The turn table was wizzed of the
Mack & a body with a large water tank fitted .(just another accessory). ..........This was used as a water cart
on a section of road that was bein repaired (or what ever).
Now work had stopped because of a lack of a grader,(either broken down Or was called away etc.
So, what to do,?? Every body decides the pub is the answer, & off they go.
Later a Brambles float ( at this point i thought of GREENIE),..comes along with a drag line bucket on board
bound for Moura . Now, as the float is goin through the road works (or detour).it gets stuck & there it stays.
They decide a dozer or grader is the go ,but, there aint any thing there. Then some bloke sez
there all in town , ide say at the pub.
The escort copper then ducks into town, finds the pub, & sez wheres all the DMR blokes.
We have a float stuck at the road works & need a grader or what ever, to tow it through the area.
Sorry its not here is the answer.....So........ the copper scratches his head & sez ......righto.......who
has the Mack water cart??? George puts up his hand ,sayin we cant drive, weve been in the pub here
for most of the day. That will be the least of your worries if you dont come with me. sez the blue boy.
So i suppose , since you asked me so nicely i had better go , sez George.
So back to the road works they go.,........grab the Mack & fill the water tank to the brim, then chain it to the
front of the float . Now the old Mack has enough grunt as flat out in low gear is slower than walkin pace, but
traction is the worry..............Anyway they give it a go & slowly the job is done.
So George is proud of the old Mack, sayin, i knew we could do it.
As i said before, it looks pretty sad but, is still a top old unit.
he is about the 3rd owner, but has had it for donkeys years & wont even entertain the idea of sellin it.
Heres another coupla pics.
.
Well....thats about it for the old Mack...............we got an invite to call in when ever we are in the area
Seems like a good idea.......................Billy........................
