I have my shoulder to the wheel,
my nose to the grindstone,
I've put my best foot forward,
I've put my back into it,
I'm gritting my teeth,
Now I find I can't do any work in this position!

Given the colour it must be "German Silver."
(listens for audience applause ......not a sausage)
That is my little joke-ules in the style of Eccles from The Goon Show.
German silver is actually an alloy of tin and something that was popular with shiny radiator grilles in the 1920's and
1930's and is still used for musical instruments.

I used to see one of the older C/O type Benzes with the whole front grille area covered in with fine corrugation gal iron sheet ,like we used to have in the bathroom (when we wuz poor).......belonged to a tribe of bushies ,and always towing a trailer full of junk looked like they been all around the clearing sales......Always amazed me the brownshirts hadnt put it off the road.

Thats it ....I think it was the 1419 Model .....a while back I saw a bogie drive version.....unusual by having two shafts out of the gearbox, one driving each diff.,and maybe the shafts turned backwards.......not uncommon in separate drive trucks......................................................PS you can see the grille might be likely to fall off,and need to be replaced with roofing iron.

Yep. The mate's Arroll - Johnston has a german silver radiator surround.
Also, this week I removed a german silver divertor (compounding) strip from the Johns & Waygood lift controller at the Ipswich telephone exchange to get the old lift back into tune. They came in differing thicknesses depending on how much current you wanted to divert from the series field in the generator (look up Ward-Leonard control).
All sorts of materials are used in all sorts of applications you don't even know about.
Jarrod.
