...with regards to these things ingesting a lot of shite and dust, i reckon the pic of the Bull's roadtrain gives a fair indication of where the dust was flying when they were travelling at speed...

....not a great heap to report around the back of the cab all the same :-/ :-/

Straw poll.
Who thinks they still look cool on the later model G cabs?
I recon they look a little bit dated & not quite rite.

Hi guys,
I had a dig through some on Kenworth and Donaldson stuff here, and I find a discussion paper dated 1981 that describes a "extreme low pressure" area that exists within 12" ~ 14" of the roof top on all COE Kenworth's. This means there ain't no air there, had to get the air from somewhere so up was it. :)
I also read that there was a vortex situation at the rear top corner of the cab :o which probably explains why our air rams were also mounted at least 14" above the back corner of the cab.
These days with the advantage of wind tunnel testing, the problem as all but gone.
Interesting that this similar problem was conquered by using extensions to get the air ram at about sun visor height on things like Road Boss and the like that had massive air turbulence over that huge bonnet. ;)
All interesting stuff I say

Tec, thats very true,
but front top of the cab stands a better chance of gettin some clean air, other than havin the pipes 50 foot

in the air. Nothin is goin to be perfect for all situations.

...great info fellas 8-) 8-) for Kenworth i s'pose it would've been a bit like feeling their way in the dark....

.....i do know one thing for sure, and that is initially those extended roof mount intakes were only ever reserved for the big HP bangers way back in the earliest Bayswater days.... and only Cummins turbo at the outset...hence that inboard (of the air horn) RH roof pipe.....

When the Anteaters came out with every thing inboard , those scoops in the side of the bonnet

looked as though they would be strugglin to keep up the air supply.

...Billy, the start of the T600 program dictated no two stroke diesels.. and it's amazing to know just how much more air those two strokes needed as compared to a series 60 or Cummins....
