Grain Work was created by Backyard Fixer
Good evening all,
I have not been on here for months. Every time I sit down there seems to be a steering wheel in front of me.
I have been asked by my bosses brother to drive a HC grain truck in my spare time. Around 20 loads between now and Christmas, less then 100 kms from farm.
My question is.
What would be the going rate per load be?
Thanks BYF

I would be asking for hourly rate, could be a lot of sitting around.

Possibly not. If the season there has been similar to the north of NSW queuing will not be an issue as the crop has been pretty thin. Having said that a lot of receivals have been closed down this year which means carting longer distances for some to silos which now have a wider catchment area and hence must be busier. All part of the decade long ongoing fall out from Canberra's push to get rid of the single desk AWB.

BF, I asked a mate who has a regular gig doing Grain most summers. as Mammoth says, no waiting at Silos, but expet lots of waiting at the other end while they chase enough grain to strip. Mate only does it on the sly for fun and for $20 odd the hour. Full time bloke gets $30 something.
woulda had a crack myself this year if things had been busier...
