Hi,

Interesting to read they took the Gas vessel on the scenic route from Adelaide to Portland, via Crystal Brook, Burra and then found their way back to Kieth and then Narracorte.

The Leyland Brothers had nothing on FleetExpress Steve The font of all things Fleets. told me of what was to be a trip from Melbourne to Sydney then on to Newcastle only to be told on arrival at Newcastle that he had a Brisbane to Mount Isa job. He ended up leaving Isa. for Darwin for a job to Broome then from Broome to the goldfields at Kalgoolie finally across the paddock to Adelaide then home to Melbourne an as he said the whole trip was at a top speed of 80 kph. and 12 months living away from home allowance.

This is a double banger FleetXpress load pulled up on the Melbourne road at Corio. I'm sure those twin motors were comin' from the Anglesea open cut, and mighta been stopped at the Corio Bay Roadhouse, which was always a very busy truckies stop before the ring road was built a few years ago!
