Got a story for today ,My brother today took a truck bobtail 30 km from his bosses workshop to get some work done on it , Got pulled up by the cops and got booked for driving a HC vehicle on a HR licence the cop said because the truck has a turntable it has the ability to tow a trailer and therefore is a HC vehicle ,Thoughts

... the truck has a turntable it has the ability to tow a trailer and therefore is a HC vehicle

'course by that same reasoning some-one with a HC license could get done coz it's got the ability to tow two trailers thus requiring MC license ... :-/ ::)

Be it firearms or V8 engines, the question is not "why should you have them?"
, but "who are you to demand that I justify them?"

Tell him to take it to court and then when he wins tell him to hit them up for lost wages and damages. Most silly thing I have heard it does not become an articulated vehicle til the trailer is on sounds lie the copper may have needed to fill his book

I see you're from Wodonga, So did this happen In Vic, Or N.S.W.?

if It happened in N.SW. I 'm fairly certain (but don't know) that your brother is in the Clear....

Having said that, I doubt that, this Forum is the most reliable Place to be getting that sort of Advice..

Go & talk to a Driving School in Albury/Wodonga. They should Know the rules..

..the guts of the premise remains .. and I reckon it was a bad call by the copper

....HR rules.... "trucks and buses with a GVM more than eight ton tonnes, and three or more axles"...

...there may be a fine point of detail of what a "truck" is... compared to a "prime mover " or as the Yanks say "tractor" ...in the rules it appears there is no difference.....

I recon it's a bad call on the cops behalf, otherwise all HR licensed drivers of tandem tippers or rigid s with a ring-feeder or ball could also fall foul, as they to could be going to hook up to a trailer over the 8t gvm also.

could also be hooking up to three trailers and grossing 120 ton I reckon the copper would lose if it went to court

he could have been going to overload the trailer that he hasn't hooked up yet, so they should have pinged him for that too, oh and insecure loading too.

Taking this a step further, any semi trailer driver with a ringfeder at the back could be booked for pulling road trains because they might have been going to hook up a dolly and another trailer.

Usually if an energetic young cop tried some stunt like this the sergeant on the other side of the car would take him aside and pull him into line.
