G'day Ron,
I've got a wharfie story too, years ago when I was a 'prentice diesel fitter, we had to go down to Hamilton wharf in Brisbane to to check if two Komatsu D355A's ( I'm sure you know but to anyone that doesn't..Cat D9 size equivalents ) were ok to start up and be driven forward in the Japanese freighter ships hold, so they could be picked up by the crane and lifted out of the ships hold.
The wharfies downed "tools" because they reckoned some safety net wasn't in place, even though there seemed to be nets every where !
We had to wait over three hours till the net was put up. Then they had to find the safety officer to check all was OK, that took another 45 minutes.
When all was deemed OK, we had to " instruct" two dopey wharfies how to drive the 'dozers
in to position for the crane , as we weren't "qualified" to do so.
It was a real eye opener as to how the wharves worked.
A wharfie told us the Japanese Captain was apoplectic about the delay to unloading his ship. They were all laughing about it.
Amazing.
regards Harleigh.

Kenny,I remember talking to the chap a couple of years ago.He told me he had the first one in OZ with the sloping back of cab,and he was a crane bloke. He indicated he would have sold it but everyone told him it was worth nothing. We did a couple of jobs for crane blokes in Newcastle that year, and I`ve been enjoying the barbed wire,so my memory ain`t what it used to be.
Harliegh,I`ve seen what those fools have got up too and heard plenty more stories,it`s almost criminal isn`t it? BOC,the B stands for bunch.
Was the first one sold to Martin`s fitted with a 335 Cummins?

A bit before my time in the Territory,so I've never actually seen the truck.Have seen the photo tho.Truck belonged to Ted Stiles,Outback Transport,Darwin.Bloke I met while at Buntines in the late 70s,Ian "Bully" Ashwood used to drive it.I would only assume that Stiles had it from new.OT had several Fodens that were likely bought from Diesel Motors,
(O'Niells).Petes were imported by O'Niells so that possibly explains how OT had this one.
There was another bonneted Pete pulling roadtrains out of Alice Springs, mid 60s,for Ivan Wiess' and Ian Lovegrove's "Northern Transport".
I find it a little interesting that O'Niells own transport (Fleet Owners P/L) jumped straight from Fodens to Macks on the Co-Ord Service.Never ever heard a whisper of any Petes on the run.
