Kenworth K-100 Grey Ghosts

I found this old girl parked up in Tooborac (apologies for the photo quality) didn't have alot of time to have a good look and take better pictures but the one thing I did notice was that she only had three small amber cab lights and is a bogie drive tipper

This old rocket is sitting beside the highway near Innisfail FNQ. Has been for about 20 years, outlasted the shed it used to live in. Lookin pretty sad these days :'( Couldn't find anyone home in the house nearby, and was in a hurry so couldn't get a chassis number this time, will be down there again soon though. No engine or box however the green engine fan is still sitting between the rails. Some theivin mongrel has pinched the grille emblem recently too, fresh and shiney underneath >

Is is a TNT banga ... If it's a ghost it would be one of the last 5 or so .... But my money would be on it being one of the P&C coloured ones ..... Maybe even a sister truck to Detectives

The Grey Ghost cab/chassis used to come into the Footscray workshop for pre-delivery before they went out to Moorabbin (Cooks Bodies I think), to have the pans fitted. Two of the jobs we had to do on them in the PD was to diconnect deep reduction and to block out the diff-lock. All the trucks fitted with 8V-71 had over-drive gearboxes and the few that were fitted with V903 had direct gearboxes. I can't remember what the diff ratios were, but they would peak out at about 65 mph when we took them for a run up what is now called the Westgate freeway. From memory, the fastest diffs Kenworth fitted at that time were 4.11:1
This topic is really stirring up some memories.
